Where do artists get their inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from a large variety of places, but I can probably narrow it down to a few things that inspire the majority of my artwork.

  • The internet

The internet is a really inspiring place as long as you’re browsing through the right part of it. Usually, it’s the easiest place for me to find at least one idea for a new art piece.

Deviantart, Reddit, and Instagram are usually my favorite places to go on a hunt for ideas; my feed on all three is filled with works from my favorite painters, illustrators, and photographers.

Honestly, I have no clue what I would do without the internet.

  • Outdoors

I spend a lot of time outdoors; walking my dog, riding my bike, and hiking are all things I do regularly. Since almost all of my art depicts either scenery or animals, it’s easy to draw inspiration from sights around my neighborhood.

It helps that I live near a nature preserve. I see all sorts of animals there, such as rabbits, deer, and coyotes.

  • Art challenges

I’ve participated in a few well-known art challenges, most recently the 2019 Inktober challenge (using inks to create a daily art piece based on prompt words, there’s one word for each day of October). These challenges are designed to be inspiring, and I’ve found that they certainly are!

I’ve come up with and drawn some unique ideas that I probably never would have thought of if it weren’t for challenges.

I liked some of those concepts so much that I chose to draw a better version at a later date.
